Why F and I are already better parents than some...

I was in Whole Paycheck today picking up a few things (ok, chips and guac that I owed someone at work for getting a good arrest and some ice cream for me) on my way in to work. As I repeatedly tried to get the container of guac off the shelf there was this toddler (1.5...MAYBE 2 years old) running around in front of me almost tripping me and constantly grabbing things off the shelf and throwing them on the ground and at me while I am constantly trying to get around him and carts and everything else. Where was the little brat's parents might you ask? Following him around picking up the items he is throwing on the ground. Finally after giving a LONG annoyed sigh and the stink eye to the mom for letting her child run loose in the store grabbing things off shelves, she finally looks at me. She sees how annoyed I am (not with her, but her parenting mind you) and sees that I am pregnant. Oh, I could tell the snarky comment was coming. She then grabs her child (finally) and says "Honey, get in line, you are going to have one that does the exact same thing, so get used to it!"

Wait a second...Did she just tell me I was going to be a bad parent like her? So I replied "actually, I won't have to get used to it. Because my child won't be allowed to run around in stores grabbing things off shelves and throwing them on the floor or at people. Sorry, its called 'parenting' lady" which just totally sent her off the deep end. She then got really pissy and turned around after saying "F*ING BIATCH" loud enough for me to hear it. Sorry, if I called you out on your lack of responsibility and parenting skills lady after you weren't very nice to me. The employee who was stocking the shelf next to us (and helping pick up the items bratty child was throwing) turned to me after she left and said "you are already a better parent than she is!". Thanks, I hope so...and after seeing that display, I am pretty sure F and I will be TOTALLY OK on the parenting front. At least in situations like that. Oh, and the best part was, as I was leaving she let her kid run down the stairs and I almost tripped on him and luckily caught myself before I fell. If I had fallen on concrete stairs because she can't hold on to her kid, I would have throat punched her.

But in all seriousness...Who lets there 1.5-2 year old child run loose in a LARGE crowded grocery store and grab things off shelves and throw them on the ground and at people? Especially to follow around behind him picking them up and putting them back and not telling him no? Why wasn't the kid sitting in the shopping cart? Why wasn't the father who was just standing there (not doing anything) holding onto the kid? BAD PARENTING! If you can't control your child, or if you don't think he will sit long enough to go grocery shopping, why did you bring him to the store with you? He doesn't want to sit? Hold his hand, or have dad hold his hand and walk around with him while you are finishing your shopping and save your sanity as well as everyone around you

I came to the conclusion, these are the people that call the police department to help parent their children once their kids get older. If you can't control your toddler, how do you expect to control your teenager? Good to know who we will be having contact with at work in the next 12-15 years! Sad part is, won't be the kid's fault, its ALL in the parenting.

So, thank you lady, for proving to me how NOT to raise my child. I appreciate the reassurance that F and I will be able to be good parents.
