No You Can't Touch My Belly, and other unwanted advances....

Ok, so as I posted earlier on in the pregnancy there are certain things I know will/do bug me when people find out you are pregnant. Its almost as if people find out you are pregnant and all their common sense about social situations and filter for what comes out of their mouth instantly goes away. Why is this? Just because im pregnant, does not mean you get a free excuse to say ANYTHING to me and invade my personal space. Not cool. Now, please understand. These rules do not apply to immediate family (duh, they didn't apply before I was pregnant, they sure don't apply to them now) and EXTREMELY close friends. Everyone else, please take note (AGAIN).

1) Do not go up and touch a pregnant woman's belly. We don't touch yours, so why is it instantly ok for you to touch mine now that there is a baby inside of it? NO! And if you REALLY REALLY want to touch the belly, ASK first. Some women may be totally ok with it. I for one am not (unless you fit into that group above, and I would totally let you touch my belly if you asked). Plus, I never liked people touching me to start with. I don't hug a TON of people, im not touchy feely, so I am really not touchy feely now. And I will be less touchy feely after this baby gets here. And no, if we are not close, you can't touch my baby either.

2) When it comes to weight. You wouldn't comment on a woman's weight BEFORE she was pregnant, so what makes you think its ok to start now? Its not. In fact, I am more sensative now than I was before (Thank you pregnancy hormones) and I know I will be heavier than I have ever been in my life. Granted its for a good cause, but that does not mean I like seeing that number on the scale every time I go to the Dr's office. Its a chick thing, get over it, don't talk about my weight. So, don't ask how much I weigh, or how much i've gained. Just know its none of your business, and if there is a problem with it, my Dr will talk to me about it. But I don't see your PhD anywhere, so shut it. You don't talk to women about their weight before they are pregnant, so don't start doing it now.

3) Unsolicited advice from random strangers is not ok. Like telling me I should not be drinking my DECAF latte (because you don't know its decaf) when really its none of your damn business. Not like I am drinking a beer or something. Get over yourself. And besides, I checked with my Dr. Even a regular latte once in awhile for a hardcore caffiene addict like myself is perfectly acceptable. Again, I don't see your PhD anywhere, so keep your mouth shut.

4) Pregnancy causes all sorts of weird bizarre symptoms, body changes, side effects, etc. If I have never talked to you about any personal body issues before, I am definitely not going to start now. So, again, don't ask me those kinds of personal questions, unless you want to answer some of your own.

So that's my list for right now. Pretty sad that I actually have to make that list at all because people don't understand that how you act towards a non pregnant person, is exactly how you should continue to act. And if you are DESPERATE to touch my belly, ask. If you are lucky and I am comfortable enough with you, it just might happen (but overall, not likely). Remember the rule, "I don't touch your's, so don't touch mine" and we will be OK.
